We had the pleasure of catching up Dani Zizak, Chief Marketing Officer, Cat Footwear to get the scoop on the brands Spring/Summer 2017 collection. How would you describe your spring/summer 17 collection?
This season we’re focusing on purposeful brilliant basics that are approachable yet sophisticated in craftsmanship, material, and design. Our women’s collection features festival-ready summer booties, everyday, city ready sandals and sandals and boots crafted in beautiful artisanal leathers. For men, we’ll introduce a Gore-Tex® Surround collection to keep you protected from the rain and comfortable in the heat, and expand our EASE comfort collection to provide a full breadth of hardworking and stylish styles. Of course we’ll also features some beautifully crafted leather boots and rugged everyday classics.
What's your favorite piece in the collection?
For women, the Sunswept. There’s nothing better than a bold, strappy sandal for running around the city in the summer.
For men, we’d have to pick the Carnaby Canvas. The lightweight canvas upper and color combo look amazing and with the super lightweight EASE comfort cushioning, we never want to take it off.
How would you describe the brand aesthetic?
Bold, utilitarian, classic.
What's your most popular style?
For women, it’s the Sunswept sandal.
For men’s, the Awe sneaker boot has been a favorite.
It's such an interesting color palette, what was your starting point?
Authenticity is really key for the season – natural materials were key from a design direction. This lends itself really well to neutrals and dusty denim blues & rich paprika reds.
How do you balance creativity with commerce?
For our brand, we start with the consumer. We know that our consumer looks for us to deliver on trend product that is simple and sophisticated, with an emphasis on value, heritage and quality. Our product is inspired by trends, and filtered through our Brand filter so that it is always very wearable & utilitarian.
Who is your style inspiration?
Caterpillar makes machines that move the earth. We design, engineer and craft footwear for the earthmover in all of us – and that’s who we find our inspiration from.
How do you define the CAT aesthetic and consumer?
The Cat consumer is bold – just like the brand. Our consumers value heritage and quality.
We are just coming out of NYFW- what trends excited year for the upcoming season. Do you plan to incorporate any into upcoming collections?
We love to see the layering and different textures that were big on the runways. Just like in clothing, it’s often the interesting material combinations and extra, unexpected details that set our shoes apart.
What 3 words best describe your brand?
Bold, authentic, utilitarian.
What sets your basics apart from competitors?
The quality and craftsmanship combined with excellent design details.
